Atlas Shrugged debuted on The New York Times Bestseller List at #6 three days after its publication date. It remained on the list for 21 weeks, peaking at #4 for a six-week period beginning December 8, 1957. Atlas Shrugged was generally disliked by critics, despite being a popular success.
Movie of the Week
Empire of the Sun tells the story of Jamie "Jim" Graham, a young boy who goes from living in a wealthy British family in Shanghai, to becoming a prisoner of war in Lunghua Civilian Assembly Center, a Japanese internment camp, during World War II. Steven Spielberg directed the film, which stars Christian Bale, John Malkovich, Miranda Richardson and Nigel Havers.

At Close Range is a film based on the real life rural Pennsylvania crime family led by Bruce Johnston, Sr. which operated during the 1960s and 1970s. It was released on April 18, 1986, and stars Sean Penn, Christopher Walken, Chris Penn, Mary Stuart Masterson, Millie Perkins, Candy Clark and Crispin Glover.

This is an exciting week for Thirty Seconds to Mars. As you may have already heard, yesterday we released Kings and Queens our first single off the upcoming album This is War.
If you haven't had the chance to listen to the song yet, click below to stream it now! Stay tuned for information about the music video. If you are in Los Angeles, we'll need you to participate!
On October 13th Kings and Queens will be available for download in the iTunes store. The album This Is War will also be available for Pre-Order and a purchase will include a download of the single Kings and Queens, the full album This Is War, and 2 bonus tracks not included on the album.
We have also released the image of one of the album covers for This is War that will be used after the Faces of Mars (Fan submitted pictures) and in countries where we could not do Faces of Mars.

M83 - Saturdays = Youth Saturdays = Youth is an album by French electronic group M83 released on April 14, 2008. The album was recorded with Ken Thomas (known for his work with Sigur Rós, The Sugarcubes, Cocteau Twins and Suede) and Ewan Pearson (who has also produced for Tracey Thorn, The Rapture and Ladytron).

Book of the Week Less Than Zero by Bret Easton Ellis is set in Los Angeles in the early 1980's. This coolly mesmerizing novel is a raw, powerful portrait of a lost generation who have experienced sex, drugs, and disaffection at too early an age, in a world shaped by casual nihilism, passivity, and too much money a place devoid of feeling or hope.
Movie of the Week Hunger was written by Enda Walsh and Steve McQueen, who also directed. The film follows life in the Maze Prison, Northern Ireland with an interpretation of the highly emotive events surrounding the 1981 IRA Hunger Strike, led by Bobby Sands. With an epic eye for detail, the film provides a timely exploration of what happens when body and mind are pushed to the uttermost limit.

We have been feverishly rehearsing here in LA to prepare for the live shows coming up in just a few weeks. While the European shows have sold out, the US dates still have tickets available. Make sure you check the tour dates below to catch any of the performances near you.

Last week we had a special acoustic night at The Hive in Los Angeles and on Monday we shared the last two years of work with many family and friends at the Montalban Theatre Listening Event. We also premiered "The Ride" a short film inspired by Kings and Queens. Thank you to all the people who came out to support us before we go on tour.

Thirty Seconds to Mars is back in the USA after a successful tour of Europe. They've already played shows in Salt Lake City, UT and Denver, CO this week. Today they are in Houston, TX and will be making stops in Grand Prarie, West Palm Beach, and Tampa Bay before the week is over.
It is now less than a week before the album is released around the globe and some countries will have the album in stores before others. Below is a list of countries for each of the official release dates.
An exciting new piece of merchandise was made available this week as well. You can now order a Vinyl Picture Disc of the new album This Is War at the official store.

Thirty Seconds to Mars' new album 'This Is War' was released worldwide this past Tuesday and is #1 on iTunes Alternative Albums and #2 Overall on iTunes. The guys were in Los Angeles at The Hive to do an acoustic performance, meet with fans, and sign autographs.
People have been finding many Faces of Mars in stores all over the world. Some notable faces found are Bam Margera, Kat Von D, members of the bands Chevelle and Street Drum Corps, among others!

It comprises eight untitled tracks, divided into two parts: the first four tracks are lighter and more optimistic, while the latter four are bleaker and more melancholic.

Over the past week Thirty Seconds to Mars were back on the West Coast in the US and played a string of radio shows in Los Angeles, Oakland, San Diego, and Seattle. They also performed Kings and Queens LIVE on the Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien.
Tonight the guys are performing in Chicago, then off to Milwaukee, Detroit and Cleveland before taking a break. The 2010 world Tour starts in February!

Last weekend Thirty Seconds to Mars wrapped up their tour in support of the new album This Is War by rounding out the North America leg with shows in Chicago, Milwaukee, Detroit, and Cleveland. In February, the World Tour begins.

It's the final days of 2009 and Thirty Seconds to Mars is taking a break before starting up rehearsals for their 2010 World Tour which begins in February.
